The rec.arts.comics.dc.universe post that started it all.

There now seem to be fairly solid rumors that DC is going to cancel the YOUNG HEROES title soon, after the publication of Issue #17. If you read YHIL then you know that this is a absolute shame, and if you don't read YHIL, then you should.

I was really kind of bummed about it being cancelled. Then I had an idea.... The concept is pretty simple. I am a lazy activist. Like most people I strongly support various causes but never seem to get around to actually writing a letter. So why not vote with my money? It takes little effort and not a lot of money.

As I understand it, DC needs somewhere between 22,000 and 30,000 copies sold a month to keep a series in print. Let's send a message for the last few months of YHIL and instead of letting a really great title fizzle away into oblivion... make a little noise.

Go to your local comic book shop and increase your order to 2 or 3 copies for the last few issues. He will look at you funny, but you can counter with "Oh, I'm part of the YHIL Massive Buying Campaign, haven't you heard about it?". Because he has ordered short, he will have to increase his order from his distributor. The distributors are the ones that need to send a message to DC. Really, think about it.

Pretend for an instant, you are a corporate exec at DC. You know YHIL is a good comic, and it breaks your heart to let it go, but there are the stockholders and parent companies to answer to. YHIL, it's not selling to well. So it's gotta go. Period. Well, you hear that some idiots have gotten together and are demanding, not through e-mail, not through letters, but with COLD HARD CASH that they are not happy that this title cancelled. Well then...

THAT IS WHAT THIS CAMPAIGN IS FOR. IT HAS ONE PURPOSE AND ONE PURPOSE ONLY.

Not to actually save the comic, although that would be great! But to make the guys who made the decision to cancel YHIL, pause, and however breifly go "Hey, maybe that was a mistake?"

Boycotts won't work, it's allready heading out. The only real way to make a point that will be heard now will be to vote with your wallet. If you have a better idea, please let me know, I'd love to hear it.

Stand where you are right now and shout "I WILL NOT allow Young Heroes to walk alone into the furnace of unstable molecules!"

You see, what we got here is a comic that is MOSTLY dead...

But Mark! You cry. It cannot work! DC has already planned, distributors have ordered, wheels in motion, wheels within wheels, etc, etc.

To naysayers, I casually rebut... So? I like the comic, dammit, and I am willing to fork over another $4 a month for the next three months to let them how pissed I am that it's being cancelled. If you don't want to help... shove off. Don't need you. If your willing to help, then sign up and let everyone know that you think this idea has merit. If you would like to write letters, start a petition or anything else that activists do, please let me know, I would like all the help I can get.
